Have A Heart That Dances |

“Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance.” I read this statement from a periodical and it was signed, “from an 83-year old lady.” I’m with her! How many of us hear the music of life but never really dance? When my husband holds me tight my heart dances. Proverbs 30:19 calls it “Something hard to understand…”the way a man and woman fall in love.” The “I love you Mom” phone calls and emails bring all kinds of dancing to my heart. This past Father’s Day Emmitt’s heart danced big time. The love of three sons brought overwhelming joy. With permission, I share one son’s personal card: “I hope and pray that you have a blessed day. You’re the best Dad a guy could have! Thank you for all the “Life Lessons” you taught us and for how you taught us to be good fathers. I admire so much how you came through such adversity in your childhood and how you broke the chains and determined to raise a family in a good and proper way in the Lord. You have given us such a family legacy and I love you so much for all of that. From Lane.” So many other things give me a dancing heart. The mockingbird’s song lifts my spirits. Sometimes he sings all night long, even in a storm. Someone told me he sings to his mate while she is nesting, assuring her of his devotion and presence. What a way to make her heart dance. My heart dances when ex students greet me with a hug. Many are teachers themselves now and I am blessed. Their loving faces still remain in my book of memories and I dance. Whenever I enter a room at night and turn on the light I see the darkness disappear. I immediately think of the “Light of the world.” In the deepest recesses of my mind, that “Light” brings hope and promise to a world of darkness. “I am the light of the world. The person who follows me will never live in darkness but will have the light that gives life” (John 8:12 NCV). The God of this universe will never leave nor forsake me and through his Son I have been given eternal life. These truths keep my life in focus. God walks daily with you and me. He even joys over us with singing: The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing” (Zephaniah 3:17 NIV). Dancing with Jesus in my heart enables me to find joy in simple pleasures like the refreshing smell after a rain or viewing the morning’s due from my windowpane. I love to watch powder-puff clouds in a soft blue sky and the spectacular sunsets painted with the Master painter’s brush. A dancing heart is a happy heart. A recent study revealed that happy hearts lead to healthy hearts. “A happy heart is like good medicine, but a broken spirit drains your strength” (Proverbs 17:22 NCV). A happy heart reduces blood pressure, cholesterol and stress. To have a heart that dances, arise each morning and say, “This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24 NIV). You will never be a wallflower if you dance with Jesus in your heart. I want to hear the music and dance every dance. Sitting one out is not for me. An anonymous quote by a writer has said, “Where ever you go, go with all your heart.” I would like to add, “Where ever you go “Have a heart that dances for God.” |
