Enjoying Life Today |

| The
9-11 attack upon America has brought a realization of how vulnerable life
really is. When lives are threatened, the real issue of living and
surviving becomes paramount. The pursuit of material things becomes
insignificant. "Whoever trusts in the riches will fall, but the righteous will thrive like a green leaf" ( Proverbs 11:28 NIV). What seemed so important yesterday is forgotten in light of catastrophic events. It is so easy to take anything for granted until it is gone. Yes we have dreams and goals, but being unhappy in the process robs the peace for today. Life is too short for that. Today is all we really have. Tomorrow does not come with a guarantee. God has given an "x" amount of time. If you and I are not going to enjoy today, how can we enjoy tomorrow? This reminds me of a first grade student I once had at the beginning of school. The stress of a new situation was too much for him. Despite my efforts to soothe him, he cried most of the first day. I hugged him good bye and said "Let's be happy tomorrow." He hugged me back and said, "Maybe." Attitude dictates responses. My husband's outlook on life can be said in one simple statement: "It all depends on how you look at it." "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28). In view of this scripture, how can we lose? Travel light with God and enjoy the moment. Have fun on the journey. Live and laugh. As one famous cardiologist remarked: "Don't get upset over little things. P.S. Every big thing is a little thing." I had an occasion to follow this advice. For some reason, my divinity was a flop this Christmas. After four attempts I became discouraged to say the least. What was I to do with the "gooey" mess? I surely didn't want to waste all that sugar, so I melted chocolate and dipped the gooey divinity in it. It made beautiful chocolate drops. My husband came home to find chocolate drops all over the kitchen on waxed paper. Eating several at a time, he exclaimed: "Mmmm, this is the best candy you ever made!" It's a trade secret I replied." So why should I get upset? Maybe the next time I'll make another discovery of failure turning into success. By the way, I'm still working on my peanut brittle. Sometimes I think I've invented a new highway blacktop. "Be ye anxious in nothing," the Creator of this universe has instructed. How different our lives would be if we simply trusted Him with every care. Since He knows the number of the hairs upon our heads, can he not know our needs? Giving every burden to Him enables one to travel "light" with Him. He has every moment of our lives in His hands. His shoulders are big and wide. He can carry our burdens. We cannot. Traveling light with God gets rid of all the extra baggage in our lives. The child of God is forgiven. That suitcase of grudges, resentment, bitterness, unforgiveness or any other repented sin is gone. It is dropped into God's sea of forgetfulness. It is gone forever. It is the greatest news in the world. "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!" (Romans 10:15 NIV). Travel light with God for the darkest night becomes light, sorrows fade, trials become triumphs, problems reveal possibilities, questions become answers, gain dispels pain, good overcomes evil, love becomes stronger than death, joy is in today, depression flees, optimism reigns, hope springs eternal, peace pervades, well being prevails, success accelerates, blessings pursue, laughter heals, fear retreats, faith advances, restoration occurs. We win! Why? We travel light with God. |
