Returning to Grand Patriotism |

| Let this 4th
of July be a beginning for the return of patriotism and a deep love and
appreciation for this beloved country. I don't know about you, but I get
just a little weary of continual controversy over issues that would
adversely affect this nation.
Excuse me, but I love our flag. The right to burn it or desecrate it in any way offends me, big time! Those who want to destroy our flag can always leave this country if they don't love it. To me, burning the flag does not include the right to destroy the sacredness of our nation's symbols. There are those who oppose the death penalty for heinous crimes and yet are not bothered by the slaughter of innocent babies in the womb. The whale and spotted owl and even kangaroo rats seem to have priority. Wouldn't it be wonderful if Congress could work together for the good of the country instead of the party? By the way, we have a chaplain in Congress who leads prayer. This is in the highest form of government and I am thankful for that. Yet we can not have prayer in school or other public places. I find it more than hypocritical to ban prayer because of church and state, only to grasp prayer and cling to it in a national tragedy. No one seems to mind prayer in a public place wherever there is a severe crisis, such as Columbine or the Oklahoma bombing. When tragedy occurs, even the most vehement opponent of prayer in a public place realizes there is none other to turn to except God. We have seen crimes go unpunished. We have seen those held above the "rule of law," and we have seen the innocent become the victims. To me, global warming is a buzz word used as a ploy to sneak upon a "One World Government," destroying the sovereignty of the United States. I am sorely grieved when I think about our soldiers in a foxhole in some foreign land, putting his life on the line for someone who is apathetic about patriotism, flag burning, freedom, or confiscating property from a private citizen for some environmental project that cost the taxpayers millions. Is there a move on to redistribute wealth for the good of the planet? Why would a soldier want to risk his or her life for the U.N. or a "One World Government?" You see, I love this country. I am proud to be an American. I want to pass on to my children and grandchildren a country where people respect its flag, live by biblical principles and recognize that a love of God and country is the only way to real freedom. We celebrate July 4th because our forefathers were willing to die rather than to be ruled by dictatorial tyranny! It is sad, but true, that something precious is not appreciated until it is lost. "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord" (Joshua 24:15). We will honor "Old Glory." We will live by the truths this country was founded upon. We will have a tear in our eye and have our hand over our heart whenever we hear "The Star Spangled Banner" played. After the last note is sung, we will say "Amen." Amen to freedom. Amen to patriotism. Amen to a country who honors God. "Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people" (Proverbs 14:34). It is time to take our country back! |
